We arrived in Skagway on Tuesday afternoon, and our RV site is in the parking lot adjacent to the cruise ship docks. What a view! Normally, to say we are camped in a parking lot would not be a good thing, but this one is great. It's an easy walk to the main street for shops and restaurants, and did I mention the view?
Yesterday, we had a busy day touring the area with Spike leading our caravan of cars. We got a lot of history of Skagway and the Klondike Gold Rush. Our day ended last night with an 1890s show based on the life of the infamous Soapy Smith, a con man who ran the town back in the early days. It was a great show! Before the show, we got to "gamble" with play money at the tables. And finally, back in the RV, we had 4th of July fireworks in the bay, right outside our front window. We loved seeing the fireworks while relaxing in our own "living room" in our pajamas.
Today and tomorrow are free days, and we are taking a little R&R time to clean the RV/car, shop and relax. There's alot going on for the July 4th holiday in town. Maybe we'll participate in the egg toss, three legged race, or horseshoes...or NOT.
On Saturday, it's back to the Yukon to follow the trail of the gold rushers to Whitehorse and then Dawson City. After that, it's back to Alaska for the remainder of the tour.
See you down the road!
